Rome and the ruins of Pompeii are now closer

On Sunday 16 July, the new direct Rome-Pompeii Frecciarossa train service departed from Rome’s Termini station. It is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Italian State Railways Group.

The new train service was presented at the Ministry of Culture by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché, FS Italian State Group CEO Luigi Ferraris, Museums General Director Massimo Osanna, and Pompeii Archaeological Park Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel.

The change-free connection between the capital and one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites will be provided by the Frecciarossa 1000, the flagship train of Trenitalia’s fleet (leader of the FS Group’s Passenger Hub) every third Sunday of the month and will enable travellers and tourists to reach Pompeii from Rome in one hour and 47 minutes and return in the evening in two and a quarter hours. Already during the journey, passengers will be able to learn about the history of ancient Pompeii through a clip that will be broadcast on on-board monitors.

Timetable. Departure is scheduled in the morning from Roma Termini at 8.53 am with a stop at Napoli Centrale at 10.03 am and arrival at Pompei station at 10.40 am. The Pompei Link shuttle bus will be waiting for travellers to the excavations. The return journey is at 6.40 pm with a stop at Napoli Centrale at 7.23 pm and arrival at Roma Termini at 8.55 pm.

The new link will be added to the 50 daily round trips already existing between Rome and Pompeii by Frecciarossa, which will arrive at Napoli Centrale with the High Speed train and continue to the destination with Trenitalia regional trains from Piazza Garibaldi station below.
