The Big Bench of Sperlonga
, inaugurated on 15 October 2022, is a “giant bench” that is part of the international Big Bench Community Project, a non-profit foundation promoted by the American designer Chris Bangle together with his wife Catherine. These are giant benches identical in shape and size, installed all over the world (the one in Sperlonga is Big Bench no. 265).
Sperlonga’s Big Bench is located on the hill overlooking the Grotta di Tiberio. It can be reached from the mouth of the ancient Via Flacca, which is just beyond the National Archaeological Museum and archaeological area of Sperlonga. Just over 1 km of panoramic path, for a walk of about 10-15 minutes inside the Riviera d’Ulisse park. A strategic observation point, with a truly breathtaking view encompassing the area from the Circeo Gulf to the Pontine Islands, and the Flegrean Islands with Ischia in the foreground.
